A wall planter brings color to an empty vertical space; a hanging planter suspends the pot from a suitable support. The right choice depends on where it will hang, how you will water it and how much room the plant needs. Start with those practical details, then choose the painted design you love.
Our wall and hanging planters collection brings both forms together. Use this guide to compare them, then check the measurements, photographs and included pieces on the individual listing.
Wall planter or hanging pot?
Choose a wall planter when you want a ceramic accent against a wall and have a suitable place to mount it. Think about the space around the piece as well as the plant: leaves need room, and you need access to lift out an insert or water without soaking the wall.
Choose a hanging planter when you have a suitable overhead support and want the pot visible from several angles. Leave room for its suspension and the plant above the rim. Keep it clear of doors and busy walkways, and choose a height you can comfortably reach for routine care.
Compare three designs from our collection
A small hanging pot with bird accents
The Small Talavera Hanging Planter with Birds lists an approximate size of 7.5 inches wide by 5 inches tall, excluding the birds. Its description includes a hanging chain. The birds extend beyond the pot, so allow extra clearance rather than treating those measurements as the total display space.
Those are the listing’s overall pot measurements, not a confirmed interior planting diameter. If you plan to use a nursery pot inside it, check the opening and usable depth before choosing an insert.
A brown-and-white hanging planter

This design lists an approximate size of 10 inches wide and 6 inches deep, with black metal chains described in the listing. Its restrained palette offers a different look from the multicolor bird pot. Compare the listed dimensions with your space, but confirm the opening size if a particular plant container needs to fit inside.
A cat-shaped wall planter

The cat design puts the decorative shape at the center of the display. Its listing describes wall mounting and use with small plants. Confirm its measurements, planting opening and mounting requirements before planning an exact fit. Check the selected piece’s photos for its color and pattern rather than assuming every handmade example looks identical.
Check drainage before choosing a plant
Do not assume every ceramic planter has the same drainage. Look for a clear statement or base photograph on the exact listing. If the drainage arrangement is unclear, ask us about that piece before buying it for direct planting.
A removable nursery pot can make watering easier when it fits safely. Take the insert out to water, let it drain and return it without trapped water underneath. Plan where any runoff will go, particularly near an indoor wall or furniture. Check the plant’s own light and watering needs when choosing its location.
Plan the support and the weather exposure
A chain shown with a pot does not establish which ceiling hook, wall fixing or bracket suits your home. Confirm what is included and choose a support appropriate for the surface and the combined weight of the planter, wet soil and plant. Follow the fixing manufacturer’s guidance; get installation help if the surface or load is uncertain.
An outdoor description does not establish frost tolerance. Before cold weather, read our winter-care guide for Talavera pots and the guidance for your exact piece.
